Al Bateen Beach

Al Bateen Beach is a clean, quiet city beach in Abu Dhabi, about 800 metres long. It looks out at the bridge linking Abu Dhabi with Hudayriat Island. Entry is free.

The beach holds Blue Flag status, the international mark of clean and safe water. The entry into the water is very gentle, though there are stones in places.

What you'll find on the beach

Facilities. Changing rooms, showers and toilets, and a few cafés and kiosks selling food and drinks. There are no umbrellas or loungers for hire and no shade structures.

Activities. A water sports centre with kayaks and paddleboards, beach volleyball, sports grounds nearby, waterfront walking paths and a playground. People also come to fish and picnic by the sea.

Ladies' section. Part of the beach is open only to women and children (boys up to 7).

Hudayriat Island. The bridge to the island was once jokingly called "the bridge to nowhere", but today Hudayriat is Abu Dhabi's main sports and leisure destination, with a 600-metre free public beach, cycling tracks, extreme sports parks, camping and waterfront restaurants.

How to get there

The beach is in Al Bateen, on Khalifa Al Mubarak Street off Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street. A taxi or car is the easiest option.

Tips before you go

Bring an umbrella or shade: there is none on the beach. In summer, come in the morning or towards the evening.

The beach is easy to combine with a trip to Hudayriat Island, just across the bridge.
