Corniche Beach runs along Abu Dhabi's main promenade, the Corniche. It is a clean sandy beach more than 2 km long, with views of the city-centre skyscrapers.
The beach holds Blue Flag status, the international mark of clean and safe seawater.
What you'll find on the beach
Sections. The beach is divided into three parts. Al Sahil (Gate 4) is the public section with free entry, popular with groups and singles. The sections at Gates 2 and 3 are family areas with paid entry; Gate 2 has its own quiet zone.
Facilities. Showers, changing rooms and cabanas; sun loungers and umbrellas can be hired for a fee. Lifeguards are on duty until sunset.
Around it. Cafés and restaurants, sports grounds and playgrounds, and cycling and jogging paths line the promenade. In the evening, a lit "night beach" next to the family area is open for walks after sunset.
How to get there
The beach runs along Corniche Road in central Abu Dhabi — just tell the taxi driver the gate number. There are more than 1,100 free parking spaces within a five-minute walk of the beach.
Tips before you go
With children, or for a quieter day, choose the family sections at Gates 2 and 3: they are calmer and have loungers for hire.
Swim while the lifeguards are on duty, until sunset. In summer the sand gets very hot in the middle of the day, so come in the morning or towards the evening.
After the beach, walk along the Corniche to the Heritage Village and Marina Mall.
