Every Arab country has an ethnographic village and Abu Dhabi is not an exception. There is a similar village in Dubai, but this one is bigger and more interesting. At the Heritage Village, located on Al Marina Island, you can learn more about the traditional way of life of the Emirati people. In the village, you will enjoy palm-frond huts, which were usually built in oases, trading stalls, ancient artifacts, and historical photographs.
It’s not worth thinking that everyone in the emirates lived this way; here, the everyday life of the Bedouin inhabitants of the oases is more likely represented.
The Heritage Village is a great place to buy souvenirs.
It is better to come to the Village in the morning before the buses with tourists arrive, which usually happens in the afternoon.
As we said above, the Heritage Village is located on Al Marina Island, 10 km from the center of Abu Dhabi. From the center, you can get there by bus No. 005, 007, 009, 011, 032, 034. Any of these buses will take you to the Marina Mall shopping center, and then follow the signs.
The entrance is free.
The village is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with an additional Friday morning session from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm, followed by 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
During Ramadan, the schedule is subject to change, and on Fridays during Ramadan, the village is closed, as are most other entertainment venues.
On site there are working traditional craft workshops — pottery, weaving, and a blacksmith's forge — where local artisans demonstrate old crafts live. Next to the village there is a small botanical garden with plants traditionally used by Bedouins, and a waterfront viewpoint with a view of the Abu Dhabi skyline across the bay — one of the most photogenic angles on the city.
