Al Bateen & Hudayriyat

The quiet south-west: Al Bateen Beach and Hudayriyat Island with its beach and cycling tracks

Abu Dhabi district · 2 places

Al Bateen and Hudayriyat make up the quiet south-west of Abu Dhabi: a calm city beach by the old Al Bateen district and neighbouring Hudayriyat Island, reached by bridge, where people go to swim, cycle and walk by the water.

Why go

Al Bateen Beach is free, holds Blue Flag status and looks out at the bridge to Hudayriyat; it is open from 6 am to midnight, with swimming until sunset. On the island is Hudayriyat Beach, with a free section and the Marsana zone with paid sunbeds; entry to the island itself is free, and cycle paths run along the shore.

How to get there

By taxi it is 15–20 minutes from central Abu Dhabi, and a bridge leads to the island. Abu Dhabi has no metro.
