The best aquarium and zoo in the emirate is located about 5 km from the city centre. 
It's home to a large number of rare and exotic animals: rhinos, hippos and elephants, lions and tigers, giraffes, lemurs, mongooses, and many other African and Arabian species. Some animals can be fed.
All visitors can join a walk through the safari park, home to around 250 animals. You can also visit the multimedia museum, whose exhibition is dedicated to the history of the UAE and the Abu Dhabi desert.
There are several cafes and snack bars on the zoo grounds, as well as a souvenir shop.
Admission costs 31.5 AED (about $8.5) for adults and 10.5 AED (about $3) for children. If you're staying in Dubai, book a day tour with transfer and a zoo visit.
Visiting the safari park is paid separately. You can hand-feed the giraffes fresh carrots and lettuce (usually 3–8 pm, inexpensive), or take a 45–60-minute safari by truck or SUV through the park grounds for closer animal encounters — these are separate paid options, bookable on-site or in advance on the zoo's website.
The zoo closes for the summer (usually from June to early September) — check the zoo's official website for current days and hours before your trip.
