Al Noor Island Park

Al Noor Island is located in the middle of Khalid Lake. Getting there is easy — just walk along the corniche to Al Noor Mosque, cross the bridge, and you're there. The bridge offers an unusual view of the city's skyscrapers and the bay. The view is especially good at sunset, since the sun sets right behind the skyscrapers on the opposite shore.

The island is almost entirely covered in greenery, which alone is reason enough to visit. It's divided into several zones, each planted with a mix of species unusual for the UAE, such as olive trees, and traditional ones like palms and cacti. Sculptures and art installations are scattered across the island, turning a walk through the park into a stroll through contemporary art. In the evening the park is beautifully lit up with dozens of types of lights, lanterns, and colors.

The island's main attraction is the Butterfly House. The butterflies live in a beautiful glass pavilion topped with a dome shaped like an irregular droplet, decorated with Arabic-style patterns. In total, 500 butterflies live in the House, brought over from India and Southeast Asia.

It's a good idea to arrive around 16:00, walk around the park while it's still light, visit the butterflies, and then walk through the park again once it's dark.

After your walk, you can have dinner at the futuristically designed Al Noor Cafe, located not far from the Butterfly House.

Al Noor Island admission and opening hours

The island is open from 9:00 to 23:00 on weekdays and from 9:00 to midnight on weekends.

Island admission starts at AED 35 (≈$10) for adults and AED 20 (≈$5.5) for children 3–12, depending on the package chosen (for example, with a guide or with a credit at Al Noor Cafe). Entry to the Butterfly House is not included in the basic price.

The Butterfly House is open from 9:00 to 18:00.

A combined "island + Butterfly House" ticket costs around AED 75 (≈$20) for both adults and children.
