Al Majaz & Khalid Lagoon

Khalid Lagoon: Al Noor Island and Mosque, Al Majaz Park and the Al Qasba canal

Sharjah district · 5 places · 15 hotels

Al Majaz is the district around Khalid Lagoon in central Sharjah: waterfront promenades, parks and towers by the water. In the evening half the city comes here for a stroll, and the district's main sights line the shores and an island in the middle of the lagoon.

Why go

The city's most beautiful mosque is Al Noor, built in 2005 and modelled on Istanbul's Blue Mosque. From it a bridge leads to Al Noor Island, a park with unusual plants, art installations and views of the skyscrapers at sunset. On the shore is Al Majaz Park with walkways, cafés and abra boats, and along the canal the Al Qasba promenade with restaurants and evening lights. With children, try the Pearls Kingdom water park in Al Montazah Parks.

Where to stay and who it suits

Al Majaz is the most convenient part of Sharjah for a short stay: plenty of mid-range hotels and apartments overlooking the lagoon, with restaurants and waterfront walks close by. The Old Town is 5–10 minutes away by taxi.

How to get there

From Dubai it is 30–60 minutes by taxi depending on traffic; from Sharjah Airport, about 20 minutes.
