The Fujairah Museum is located in the historical centre of the city and is well worth a visit for anyone curious about what Fujairah looked like hundreds of years ago and how it turned into the city it is today.
You'll learn about the history of Arab settlements in the area, everyday life and customs, see ancient artefacts, discover the history of the national costume, and can visit a display of weapons, coins and jewellery.
One of the collection's highlights is an ostrich-egg bowl about 2,200 years old, found during excavations at Qidfa; the same site yielded a Wadi Suq-period burial (2,000–1,300 BCE) with hundreds of swords, bows and arrows — part of this Bronze Age collection is on display here too.
Even if history isn't really your thing, it's still worth coming to admire the museum building itself — its decor is quite unusual, somewhat reminiscent of classic Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery motifs: clover leaves, soft rounded lines...
The entrance fee for the Fujairah Museum is 5 AED (about $1.5). The museum is open Sunday to Thursday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, on Fridays from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm, and is closed on Saturdays.
