Kalba Beach is in the town of Kalba on the east coast. It belongs to the emirate of Sharjah, though it is closer to Fujairah — which hardly matters to a visitor, as there are no borders between the emirates.
The beach is known for crystal-clear water, yellow sand and turtles that sometimes appear near the shore. It has no facilities, but it is very spacious and uncrowded.
What you'll find on and near the beach
Cafés and shops — a few near the beach.
Kalba Corniche — palm trees, moored yachts and boats, shops and cafés, and at the end of the promenade a large fish market selling fresh seafood.
Khor Kalba reserve — the oldest mangrove forest in the UAE (trees up to 8 metres tall), home to rare birds; you can explore it by kayak or boat. Nearby is the Kalba Bird of Prey Centre, where you can see falcons, eagles and owls up close.
How to get there
Kalba is on the east coast, south of Fujairah city. A car or taxi is the easiest option; from Dubai and Sharjah the road crosses the mountains on the E102.
Tips before you go
There is no shade and there are no facilities on the beach — bring water, an umbrella and food, or stop at a café on the corniche.
The trip is easy to combine with kayaking in the mangrove reserve and the fish market.
