The historical centre of Fujairah is located not far from the business centre. The old town itself isn't inhabited — it mainly contains historical buildings, small shops and stalls, and museums. The most interesting museums include the Heritage Village — a reconstruction of a traditional settlement, with mudbrick and palm-frond huts, a working falaj irrigation channel, and potters', weavers' and blacksmiths' workshops, some demonstrated live by elderly women in traditional dress — and the historic Fujairah Museum; you can also visit the Fujairah Fort, built in the 16th century. The historical centre of Fujairah is also home to two mosques: the Grand Mosque (Fujairah Grand Mosque) and the newer Masjid mosque. But if you want to see the most beautiful mosque in the emirate, walk from the Grand Mosque along Al Salam Street for about 2 km to see the second-largest mosque in the UAE — the Sheikh Zayed Mosque.
