Jabal Hafeet Mountain in Al Ain

Jabal Hafeet mountain is located about 35 km from the centre of Al Ain. The Bronze Age tombs at the foot of the mountain are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Cultural Sites of Al Ain" — the UAE's first UNESCO listing, inscribed in 2011. The mountain itself is best known for its winding mountain road and the cycling races held here every January, as well as stunning views of the mountains and the city of Al Ain from the viewpoints at the summit. The mountain road to the top is one of the world's most famous among drivers and motorcyclists: 11.7 km of switchbacks with around 60 turns and gradients of up to 11%, with two lanes going up and only one coming down to avoid head-on collisions on the bends.

Another highlight of the mountain is the hot springs in Green Mubazarrah natural park, which form a small thermal lake. The springs are said to have healing properties, and you can rent a chalet nearby. The park offers magnificent mountain views, has cafes and restaurants, activities for kids and adults, and a playground for the youngest visitors.
Travellers heading to Oman often stop here too. So if you want to make the most of your trip, drop by Jabal Hafeet for at least a day on your way to Muscat.

How to get to Jabal Hafeet from Al Ain (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah)

There are a few ways. The easiest is to first take a bus to the city of Al Ain (a few hours and about $7–10), then take a taxi from there. Taxi drivers in Al Ain will usually agree to wait while you look around and drive you back, or you can simply catch a new taxi at the foot of the mountain — it's a popular spot, so there's no shortage of them.
