The Walk is Dubai's most popular seaside promenade. It runs for 1.7 km along the shore in Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), with the JBR towers on one side and a wide sandy beach on the other. Next to it starts the Dubai Marina promenade, which loops around the yacht harbour.
During the day people come here to jog and cycle, and in the evening to stroll by the sea and dine on an open terrace. Entry is free: the promenade is a public street.
What you'll find on the promenade
Restaurants and cafés line the whole of The Walk, many with sea-facing terraces.
Shops and entertainment: boutiques and souvenir shops mixed with cafés, with the skyscrapers of JBR and Dubai Marina behind them.
Boat trips. The favourite with visitors is dinner on a traditional Arabic dhow or a yacht: boats leave from the Dubai Marina piers, combining a sightseeing trip on the water with dinner. You can book one in advance, for example a 2-hour dinner cruise, or find options on the spot.
Nearby is the large Dubai Marina Mall, with European and local brands and entertainment for children and adults.
How to get there
The easiest way is the tram: the Jumeirah Beach Residence 1 and Jumeirah Beach Residence 2 stops are right by the promenade. You can change to the tram from the metro at Sobha Realty (formerly Dubai Marina) and DMCC stations — the ride takes a few minutes. Taxi drivers all know The Walk and JBR.
Tips before you go
The best time is the evening: the heat eases, the sun sets over the sea and the towers light up. In summer, walking here in the daytime is hard going.
Bring swimwear: JBR beach starts right off the promenade.
On the promenade, as in other public places in the UAE, people dress modestly: swimwear is for the beach only.
