Hatta

Dubai's mountain exclave in the Hajar Mountains: the dam, the heritage village and Hatta Wadi Hub

Dubai district · 3 places

Hatta is Dubai's mountain exclave in the Hajar Mountains, about 130 km from the city. Instead of skyscrapers there are cliffs, wadis and a turquoise reservoir, and the air is noticeably cooler than on the coast.

Why go

The main spot is Hatta Dam, where people kayak and paddleboard on the reservoir against a backdrop of mountains. Nearby is Hatta Wadi Hub with bike trails, a zip line, a climbing wall and archery; some of the bike trails are free. In the town itself is the Hatta Heritage Village, with mud-brick houses, towers and falaj wells, and free entry.

Where to stay and who it suits

Most people visit Hatta as a day trip from Dubai. If you want to stay, there are mountain lodges and campsites — book ahead, especially for winter weekends.

How to get there

It is about an hour and a half from Dubai by car. Renting a car or joining a tour is the easiest option.
