The historic Al Seef district stretches along Dubai Creek in Bur Dubai — a rebuilt "old town" with low traditional-style houses, shops and a waterfront lined with boats and yachts.
If you've already seen Dubai's main sights — Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Palm Jumeirah — it's worth the contrast to walk through Al Seef and neighbouring Al Fahidi.
What to see in Al Seef
Almost nothing remains of the real old town here — the waterfront was rebuilt from scratch in the early 2010s, but very convincingly: blank facades, carved doors, barjeel wind towers. Along the water are the shops and restaurants of Al Seef Heritage Souq, cafés serving Arabic coffee with date biscuits, and a few small history museums.
Traditional abra boats cross Dubai Creek to Deira from here.
In the evening, once the lanterns light up, the place transforms completely — a good spot for a romantic walk and photos in an Arabian-nights mood.
3 km from Al Seef is the Dubai Frame, an unusual observation deck with views over the city from 150 metres up.
How to get there
Al Seef sits on the Bur Dubai bank, a couple of minutes' walk along the waterfront from Al Fahidi. The nearest metro station is Al Fahidi (Green Line), then walk or take a taxi. An abra boat crosses to the Deira side of the creek.
Tips before you go
The waterfront is open around the clock and free to enter; individual shops and restaurants keep their own hours, so check locally. The best time to visit is in the evening, once the lights come on.
